Every year, neglected diseases kill millions of people in poor countries. For some diseases, the tools that can prevent, diagnose, and treat these diseases are inaccessible, outdated, unsafe, or ineffective. For many other neglected diseases, these tools have not yet been created. There are no vaccines to prevent them, no diagnostics to determine who has them, and no drugs to treat them.
BIO Ventures for Global Health (BVGH) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to save lives by accelerating the development of novel drugs, vaccines, and diagnostics coming from the biotechnology industry that address the unmet medical needs of the developing world. We work at the crossroads of biotechnology and global health to find the common ground between the goals of the global health community and the pragmatic needs of companies.

Over the past 30 years, biotechnology has revolutionized the health care available to patients in the developed world. In the developing world, however, millions of people still die each year because they don’t have the right medicines to prevent and treat neglected diseases.
These diseases not only destroy lives—they destroy livelihoods. The millions who are affected by disease are often unable to work and contribute to the economic health of their countries. A loss of economic stability in disease-ravaged nations can have global repercussions.
To help solve the global health crisis, biotechnology innovation is needed.
